"Hello" was my first painting in about 2 years. I moved from Berkeley to San Diego, got my own art studio and started with this piece. This was a test for myself, I wanted to make sure that I still had the skill to paint, so there was a lot of stress and pressure on this piece.

"Hello" began with me wanting to develop the background and really build up texture and many dark layers. Then my goal was to work on abstract faces, so I first added the green, male face. However, during this time, our society started to come alive with sexual assault, racism, feminism, corruption, political corruption, etc. It was eye opening and inspiring to hear these stories and really understand what was going on within these categories. This social climate went into the second part of this piece to its core, it drove me to add the red, female face. The idea was to have an unknown dialogue/connection between and male and female, creating a different story inside each of my viewers minds. As I developed the faces more, I wanted the woman to seem a bit annoyed by this guy, thinking to herself or saying out loud: "Hello?! Can I help you??"
