Gouache, Watercolor, Acrylic, Ink, Charcoal on Wood.

For this piece, I wanted to see how different mediums worked on wood and how far I could push them, especially on such a different surface. I also wanted to incorporate a drawing component into this piece, so therefore I carefully sketched my fruit.

I wanted it large so my viewers could play with the size and decide if they wanted it life size or realistic; creating an abstract viewpoint. I watered down acrylic, adding some and then wiping some off to see what that effect created. I then started to add water to drip down the center of the gourd, which removed the paint. I let it dry and then repeated the process dozens of time, coming to a conclusion that I could indeed use layering processes with acrylic on wood platforms. The hot pink serves as a the foreground and the charcoal gray serves as the background. I wanted to make sure the wood grain played a part in this as well, I tried to keep the paint applications thin in order to continue to show the grain. This painting is light and vibrant, but pushes the viewers to depict what they see and how they feel.
